Fraudsters on the move: ban from Matera and Nova Siri for three years

MATERA – The police commissioner of the Province of Matera has issued a mandatory deportation order, with a ban on return for a period of three years to the territories of the municipalities of Matera and Nova Siri, against two young people residing in the province of Naples. The provision was adopted after the two were identified and reported to the judicial authorities by the Matera State Police for the alleged crime of attempted aggravated fraud in competition. The facts date back to last March 1st, when at least eight phone calls were received at the emergency numbers 113 and 112, including four from Matera and four from Nova Siri, from elderly people who reported that they had been contacted by self-styled lawyers or members of the security forces. order asking them to pay bail for a family member involved in a road accident.

The intense awareness campaign aimed at the elderly on how to defend themselves from scams and scams, phenomena which have unfortunately been growing in recent years, is evidently producing results, prompting many of them to be wary of suspicious phone calls and to contact the police force without hesitation. In fact, thanks to the phone calls received, the Flying Squad investigators were able to identify a suspicious car, which was then stopped as it was leaving the city on state road 7 towards 407 Basentana. Three young people residing in the province of Naples were identified on board. The driver, among other things, was found to be without a driving license, which he never obtained, and therefore a report of violation of the Highway Code was also drawn up against him. The three, who were traveling in a car rented in Naples, were unable to provide a reasonable explanation regarding their presence in Nova Siri and Matera, contradicting themselves several times and, therefore, they were handed over to the judicial authorities in a state of freedom. Against the two suspects, considering that they do not appear to carry out any stable work activity in the municipalities of Matera and Nova Siri, nor have other legitimate interests that justify their permanence, considering their presence in those municipal territories likely to be attributable to the commission of illicit activities , the police commissioner proceeded with the adoption of the personal prevention measure of the mandatory leave sheet from the municipalities of Matera and Nova Siri, with a ban on returning for a period of three years.
