Salvatore La Rosa succeeds Bruno Megale

REGGIO CALABRIA – The new police commissioner of Reggio Calabria took office this morning, Salvatore La Rosa, originally from Messina, coming from Trapani where he served until last week. The Rose, happens to Bruno Megale appointed police commissioner of Milan, he took on roles, mainly in Sicily but also in Calabria in Lamezia Terme. Hoping for the collaboration of those “who deal with security and general management of the territory”, he defined the province of Reggio Calabria as “an absolutely fascinating reality, an interesting adventure that won’t be easy. It is a great point of pride for me to have been nominated here.

I say this not as a native of Messina, as some might imply, but because actually Reggio Calabria is one of the most important police headquarters in Italy. It will not be easy to replace a giant of the public security administration like Bruno Megale who has certainly made a very important contribution to the territory not only as a Reggio Calabrian, but as an operator and coordinator of an excellent group. He leaves a police station in very good health. We hope to do everything we can to maintain this high target. This is my third police station”.

“I always hope – he continued – that everyone will do their part to the full. If all this happens, police problems are increasingly less burdensome. The more you work as a team, the more results you get. I believe that the team-state as a whole is well tested. We hope to make it work even better and I think we are in a position to achieve positive results. I believe that maximum collaboration is essential. I believe that this is the key to improving our performance, but also to offering citizens a better service, because we do service, not generic work.”

Regarding investigations against the ‘Ndrangheta, the commissioner underlined how “organized crime in Italy and especially in Calabria has changed its skin, however this does not mean that we must lower our guard. We will do everything possible in one with the judicial authority that coordinates the investigations and coordinates them well. I believe that this synergy with the judicial authority and with the other police forces can lead to further important successes”.

Finally, La Rosa also addressed a message to the traders extorted by the gangs: “I believe that the most important thing is to collaborate, to come to the police station, to go to the police and to go to the prosecutor’s office. To come and tell us about years and years of harassment because they lead nowhere, they only and exclusively harm themselves. Those who don’t collaborate do nothing but put themselves in the hands of loan sharks, of unscrupulous individuals who do nothing but suck up the activities that are practically swallowed up by organized crime.”
