He hosted Sanremo 2015-16-17. Wouldn’t another treble from 2025 to 2027 be nice? “I don’t know if I still have the right musical ear”. He reiterates this in an interview with ‘Corriere della Sera’ Carlo Conti, who the rumors say is the most popular for Amadeus’ succession at the helm of the Festival. And when asked if Amadeus’ record ratings scare him, reaching a 74.1% share, he replies with irony: “But I could never replicate it, I wouldn’t get to 2 in the morning (laughs, ed.)! Amadeus he did a great job, but you can’t think about precedents, otherwise after Baudo no one would have had to do it anymore.”
On the new direction of the festival which many believe to have started precisely with his three-year period of management and artistic direction, he says: “The Festival has returned to its old glories. Some say that it was my people who started it again. I don’t take these credits I’ll take it: the only one is having been lucky enough to find Mahmood, Irama, Gabbani and Ermal Meta, Nigiotti, Caccamo among the new proposals”. No women. “I regret it. But I wanted women on stage, starting with Maria De Filippi.”
When asked if he will ask for a raise after Amadeus leaves Rai, Conti replies: “It doesn’t work like that. But I’m happy. In 2025 I will be 40 years old at Rai. For me, at every renewal it’s important that in addition to the pilot there is the machine. So far they have believed in me. Then, never say never: there is no certainty about tomorrow.”
Finally, Conti, who will again present the David di Donatello evening on May 3rd, alongside Alessia Marcuzzi, confesses to having two secret dreams: meeting Pink Floyd and Vasco Rossi. “But do you know how much it costs to reunite and have Pink Floyd come?”. With Vasco it’s easier. “And how do I do it? I go to Zocca and ring the bell: ‘Hi Vasco, do you want to have a chat?'”.
