Louis Melica, director of the Department of Legal Sciences of the University of Salento, was a guest during the last episode of PL Talk broadcast on Twitch. These are his statements:
On the salvation of Lecce
I was confident. In the first part of the championship the team won several matches playing openly and on merit. Despite D’Aversa’s final epilogue, there was great enthusiasm for the good work done. The match against Verona was certainly a watershed moment, demonstrating how something hasn’t been working for some time now with the players often scared and unsure of their abilities. Gotti was a football teacher and, having met him a year earlier during a lesson he held at our university, I greatly admired the way he taught and, above all, the personality he had, managing to get into the minds of the players, proving decisive for the entire environment.
On the national university championships
They are a kind of Olympics in which university students practicing high-level sports compete against each other every year in different venues. Today, for example, CUS Lecce won 1-0 against CUS Palermo. They are all guys who play in excellence, promotion and some even in Serie D. Ours is an excellent team and has won three consecutive championships; this year it won’t be easy because the opponents are all very strong but we will try to repeat ourselves.
On the Sports Law and Management course of the Department of Legal Sciences of UniSalento
I am very satisfied because Salento, thanks to the three-year degree course in Sports Law and Management and that of sports director, recognized by the FIGC and among the few present in Italy, can truly become a center of excellence in the sports sector and this is a source of great pride for our student community and beyond. Furthermore, the tender for the approval and modernization of the football field at the “Ecotekne” headquarters for the Serie D championship was published and the entire coverage of the tennis, padel and volleyball-basketball fields was foreseen but my dream is to continue further: in fact, resources are arriving on the profile of health and psycho-physical well-being. My objective and commitment, in this regard, is the creation of an athletics track and some fields for the inclusion of disabled people.
I would like “Ecotekne” to be experienced all day with activities outside lessons and exams. The goal is to make it efficient seven days a week and 24 hours a day. Our students must experience it and feel an integral part of the structure.
