Recent archival research requires the date of discovery to be revised. In fact, the information from Anonima Materiali Argillosi to the Superintendence of Antiquities of Abruzzi and Molise was dated 17 March 1954, communicating the discovery of the first remains. The news was then released on March 25 by Corriere della Sera and picked up by other newspapers in the following days. On 15 November 1957, the general director of Antiquities and Fine Arts, Guglielmo de Angelis d’Ossat, on behalf of the then Minister of Public Education Aldo Moro, declared his interest in guaranteeing the setting up of a paleontology section at the National Museum of Abruzzo with the Mammoth, then exhibited to the public from 1960 in the East Bastion of the sixteenth-century Castle.
