The judicial process opens for the collective legal action (class action) aimed at fire prevention, promoted by the Isola Fenice association against the Sicilian Region.
The mediation scheduled for this morning at Confmedia had a negative outcome because the invited party, i.e. the Sicilian Region, regional Territory and Environment department, Forestry Corps command, regional Civil Protection department did not reveal themselves, nor did they send communication of any kind.
Palmigiano’s words
“After having asked for a postponement of the mediation (the Civil Protection) to provide documentation – and having obtained 20 more days – the invited subjects did not participate, nor did they have the “delicacy” to communicate their lack of participation”, he says the lawyer Alessandro Palmigiano, a well-known professional and point of reference in the area, who follows the matter with his colleague Luca Panzarella, who is also joined by Licia Tavormina.
“Unfortunately, this is the administration’s approach that citizens, who ask for their legitimate rights, have to deal with. The judicial process begins now,” he concludes.
Dell’Oglio, “The fires caused 300 million in damage”
“Our objective is to ensure that those who have the duty to make Sicily safe from this environmental, social, human and economic massacre, which has been taking place for thirty years, simply do their duty”, says the president of the association Isola Fenice, Bonetta Dell’Oglio, who continues: “we remind those who turned their backs on their fellow citizens this morning, that last summer’s fires caused damage amounting to 300 million euros, six people lost their lives, many citizens they lost their homes and 62 thousand hectares of greenery went up in smoke”, he continues, “and it is unfortunate that after those events, nothing decisive was done, so much so that the fires did not stop even during the winter and until yesterday the state forestry of Randello in the province of Ragusa started burning again, like on the Nebrodi, in Agrigento and in the province of Palermo”.
