Sul recent press release from the ‘Cultural Supply Chain of the City of Foggia’, entitled, ‘What city are we in’the provincial secretary of the civic movement ‘Cambia’, the former parliamentarian and currently municipal councilor, spoke Nunzio Angiola.

“The Cultural Supply Chain rightly speaks of unfulfilled announcements, proclamations and promises of change that have dissolved like snow in the sun. I was also present when, during the electoral campaign, in the meeting on 26 September 2023 held at the Palazzetto dell’Arte, Maria Aida Episcopo, who later became mayor, promised a participatory approach to the management of cultural problems in Foggia, promised shared and clear procedures, promised sharing and valorisation of local vocations and talents. It is surprising – continues Angiola – that after such a short time and precisely in the delicate phase of starting the council, the towel is thrown in without the slightest dignity and that the Regulations for the disbursement of contributions have been neither discussed nor revised. It is surprising that the Regulation was even disregarded, in the essential part which provided for a shred of selection for the choice of activities to be financed, based on a public notice, to be published by 31 March”.

“The specter of monocratic or, even worse, discretionary management raised by the Supply Chain leaves us dumbfounded, even more as citizens than as politicians,” continued Nunzio Angiola.

“For Foggia, the cultural sector is essential, not only as an antidote to the proliferation of the mafia subculture, but also to attract tourists from Italy and abroad. In Foggia, in the cultural sphere, numerous talents are emerging, especially young people, often coming from a now renowned academy, music conservatory and university. To promote talent development, it is essential to implement a solid meritocratic practice, since meritocracy and competition are interdependent and play a crucial role in cultural progress. In Foggia we need meritocracy and we need competition. This is what helps to overcome the obstacles imposed by the culture of recommendation and familism which are the main poisons that prevent the correct functioning of the fertilizers necessary for the flourishing development of culture and talents, for the rebirth of Foggia”, commented Angiola.
