Avellino elections, peace tests in the Democratic Party between Gengaro and the outgoing councilors

«Without a strong Democratic Party, on the field with the best possible list, neither the coalition nor the mayoral candidate will take off. The burden of political recomposition falls to Gengaro. For our part, the sense of responsibility towards the city will always prevail.” This is the line of the outgoing PD councilors regarding their presence in the flag list in support of the mayoral candidate of the Campo Largo, Antonio Gengaro.

The team composed of Ettore Iacovacci, Luca Cipriano, Nicola Giordano, Gennaro Cesa, Marietta Giordano And Franco Russo had publicly accused the Nazarene of having imposed the name of Gengaro, bypassing those who fought for five years, from the minority benches, against the administration led by Gianluca Festa. For now, peace seems to have arrived Gengaro and the management group of via Tagliamento, there is still no agreement to be reached with the outgoing councilors of whom the mayoral candidate has repeatedly declared that he wants to ask again for their willingness to be part of the game. A step which, those directly involved say, has not yet taken place.

For the former group leader, Ettore Iacovacci: «As the outgoing group we look forward to being able to discuss with the candidate for mayor who will have to tell us what programmatic priorities he intends to carry forward in the electoral campaign and if and how he intends to enhance the work we have done for five years. Without prejudice to our commitment to the city, we are waiting for him to tell us whether he wants to share his race with us or not.”

For Luca Cipriano: «We undoubtedly need a strong list of the Democratic Party, capable of driving the mayor and the coalition. It would be unthinkable to imagine keeping out those city councilors who for five years held the party flag high in the city council, the same ones who carried out incisive opposition action. Gengaro has the duty to start again from here, offering the city a new and different perspective to overcome the current moment of profound confusion.” It’s up to Gengaro, therefore, according to the former mayoral candidate, «the burden of political recomposition with the group. We are still waiting for a meeting that is slow to arrive, while time is starting to run out. We feel a strong duty and necessity not to leave Avellino to the transformative civicism of Festa nor in the hands of a right that is unable to put together any project.”

Cyprian he also denies the rumors circulating in recent days about a fraying of the outgoing council front: «There is total unity among the group, no one stands out. Regardless of who will stand for re-election and how the list will be composed, the issue is political and concerns the entire Democratic Party. There are the outgoing city councilors, but also many candidates from our reference group who were not elected five years ago but who are ready to lend a hand. We are talking about the majority of the party, made up of many people active in the area, who are unthinkable not to involve. It would be irresponsible not to run with the Democratic Party at its best with the best possible list. I ran for mayor five years ago and I know well the effort and importance of building a coalition. Serves, on the part of Gengaro, an acceleration towards recomposition. For our part, the sense of responsibility towards the city will always prevail.”

For the former councilor Nicola Giordano it is the entire coalition that must get busy: «All those who contributed to the choice of the mayoral candidate must contribute to the growth of the coalition, each creating their own list. The Democratic Party will have to do the same by choosing who can best interpret the electoral path. Each member of the wide field must enter the game with his best men.”
