MODICA – “Communicating the sacred” arrives in Modica, after the brilliant debut in Catania and Taormina, with a seminar intended for the training of journalists and open to the public, which will take place on Friday 3 May 2024. The seminar will take place from 4pm until 19, in the Triberio Hall, in the Palace of Culture of Modica.
The course is promoted by the Order of Journalists of Sicily and the National Council of the Order of Journalists and organized by UCSI Sicily, in collaboration with the Diocese of Noto, the Salesians of Sicily, the Municipality of Modica, the Volunteers with Don Bosco and the Friends of Nino Baglieri Association.
The “presence of the Sacred” in human affairs illuminates the impervious paths of existence, tested by suffering and desperation, and represents the successful attempt to cross the threshold of the Mystery, arriving at the heroic nature of the virtues that characterize the goal of the “holiness”, the “augustum”, of which R. Otto speaks, in his work “The Sacred”, and therefore, a founding reason for the need to “Communicate the Sacred”.
Nino Baglieri has lived nailed to the “cross” for almost 39 years, his wheelchair. An accident at work at the age of 17 left him immobile, and in his suffering he encountered conversion, “the “Light”. He only moves his head and discovers that he can write with his mouth, this is the turning point of his life, he begins to “write and communicate with the world”, when he can he travels and meets people, testifying to everyone the joy of living, sacrificing himself daily with his suffering, for the good of others.
In 1996 he chose to live his life as a consecrated person, and he did so by joining the Salesian Family as a Volunteer with Don Bosco, a group of lay Salesian consecrated people who live the charism of Don Bosco where they live, through their work.
Five years after his death, the Cause for Beatification and Canonization was officially opened in March 2012, with a big celebration in Noto and Modica, with more than 3000 young people from all over Sicily.
Following the provisions of the Apostolic Constitution Divinus Perfectionis Magister of 25 January 1983, approved and ratified by John Paul II, and observed by all the Bishops who prepare the causes of canonization. During the diocesan phase of the Process, we proceeded to listen to those who knew him and came into contact with the Servant of God. Many testimonies were collected, letters sent everywhere, with the aim of recognizing the heroic nature of the virtues.
The “diocesan phase” of the Servant of God Nino Baglieri ends on May 5th. He officially announced it to the Salesian Family and to the local Church, the Exc. Most Rev. Mons. S. Rumeo, Bishop of the Diocese of Noto, during the solemn concelebration, on the occasion of the 17th year of the dies natalis, at the Maria Ausiliatrice Parish of Modica. The ceremony will take place in the hometown of the servant of God, Modica, in the church of San Pietro, at 6.00 pm, where the official delivery of the documents acquired in this first diocesan phase will take place, and the “Roman phase” will open, in view of the Venerability and Beatification.
