Italian Railway Networkthe lead company of the Infrastructure Hub of the FS Group, has awarded the tender for the construction of the Brindisi intermodal hub to the group of companies made up of ICI Italiana Costruzioni Infrastrutture and ESIM and to the temporary group of professionals made up of PROGIN and 3BA.

“Another step forward for Puglia: the awarding of the works on the Brindisi hub marks a success for the Italian Railway Network and the intermodality of the infrastructure.

An important piece that aims to distance the traffic of goods from the urban fabric, with its centralized platforms for the arrival and departure of freight trains, thus also encouraging relations between the Port of Brindisi and the Mediterranean.

An increasingly sustainable freight transport, therefore, which opens southern Italy towards Europe.

Furthermore, the works planned on the Brindisi hub will allow a increasingly efficient connection with the Adriatic linea connection that will bring the South closer to the rest of Europe”, he declares Gianpiero StrisciuglioCEO and General Director of RFI.

The contract worth more 33 million eurosalso financed with PNRR funds.

The project involves the completion and technological equipment of the new station «Brindisi Intermodal» – which will have four centralized 750 meter module tracks for the arrival and departure of freight trains – and the rail connection of the new station with the Adriatic line, via a new electrified single track linewith connection to the new crossroads (PC) «Brindisi Sud».

The objective is to convey the traffic of goods on the junctions and the port quay of Costa Morena via the existing ASI backbone – and to streamline the terminalisation activities of the trains serving the port, the industrial area and, in the future, the Piastra Rear-port intermodal logistics.

The activation of the work is expected by 2026.
