Benito Mussolini, a case breaks out in Catania for a suffrage function. «The celebration of the Holy Mass in the church of Santa Caterina in Catania, in memory of Benito Mussolini, has been cancelled». This is what was communicated in a note from the Etna archdiocese in relation to the decision taken by Archbishop Luigi Renna, who also ordered the closure of the church this afternoon until tomorrow. «The choice – continues the note – has been made to prevent inappropriate ideological manifestations from occurring during a suffrage mass which have caused unpleasant episodes in the past.” An obituary was published in the city press today with the wording “anniversary” and under it “Fiamma Tricolore remembers Benito Mussolini”, with the indication of a religious celebration scheduled for 7pm today.

Mussolini, Roman greetings at the commemoration in Predappio: around a hundred neo-fascists

Mussolini, 150 in Predappio

The news comes on a day of nostalgia for neo-fascists: around 150 people participated in Predappio in the seventy-ninth anniversary of the death of Benito Mussolini, on 28 April 1945 in Giulino, in the province of Como, where the founder of fascism was executed together with his lover Clara Petacci. The great-granddaughters Orsola and Vittoria Mussolini, grandchildren of Vittorio, the Duce’s eldest son, participated in Predappio.

The nostalgic people gathered in front of the church of Predappio and after a couple of kilometers they reached the cemetery of San Cassiano where there is the family crypt which by the will of the great-granddaughters was reopened a couple of years ago and where many participants they placed a red rose. There were no Roman greetings or present calls, and a minute’s silence was observed for all the deceased. The prayers of the auxiliary and the legionary were read. Some activists arrived carrying a long tricolor banner and banners of the national arditi d’Italia association.
