MANTOVAGRICOLTURA SAN GIORGIO 54 VS MARTINA TREVISO 59

(10-11; 22-31; 42-46; 54-59)

The field factor was violated for the Sangiorginos who gave way to Treviso in a dull match with low shooting percentages in which, however, shortly before the start of the match, coach Logallo found himself having to deal with the sudden absence of Llorente due to a small injury that occurred during the warm-up.

The start of the evening was quick for both teams who immediately scored, responding blow for blow, but soon they entered into a whirlwind of shooting errors with the Sangiorginos losing several balls, granting Treviso chances which however they were unable to materialise. Fietta is fouled by the 3-pointer and with a ⅔ tries to give momentum to his team accompanied by Petronio who scores another 2 points. The NPT does not stand by and continues to climb back up, remaining attached to the red and whites thanks to several free throws which allow them to remain one possession behind; in the very final captain Zagni catches the triple which allows him to overtake.

Second quarter to forget for the Sangiorgino with very wet powders who continue not to get into the right gear losing important balls, while Treviso adjusts its shooting percentages by placing a partial score of 0 to 6 gaining the first significant advantage of the Treviso teams. D’Angelo strikes out on his own and scores 5 consecutive points, sending the red and whites into crisis as they are unable to make peace with the scoreboard. Petronio tries, with the clock stopped, to give impetus to her teammates, but in the following action it is Gini who finds the first double-digit advantage at 17 to 27. Coach Logallo’s players try to mend the game, reaching -7 with a triple from Cremona, however, D’Angelo continues to punish the Mantua team who end the first half at 22 to 31.

On their return from the locker room, the Trevigians put the lead at +15 with D’Angelo and Egwoh on top, while for the Virgilians it was Novati and Fietta who kept their teammates afloat. Dell’Olio gives the momentum with the 3-point bomb and the Sangiorgigines score a score of 12 to 0, reaching -3 (38-41) with a flash of pride. Nuova Pallacanestro Treviso is unable to remove the valances from their shoulders as they continue to remain at a disadvantage, but by a minimal gap which, in the final with Vespignani’s one out of two from free throws scores the score 42 to 46.

The last quarter continues to be a mad chase for coach Logallo’s girls with Cremona scoring a triple of -1 (47 to 48), but Vespignani pushes the red and white back again by scoring 5 consecutive points: the red and white’s minimum disadvantage is soon turns into a +11 of the guests and everything has to be done again for MantovAgricoltura. Cremona is still trying to mend things, but in the following actions San Giorgio loses too many balls, wasting some opportunities that would have been worth a full return to the game. Bottazzi goes on his own and scores 4 points that put his team at -4 with just under 100 seconds to go. Too many oversights and errors penalize MantovAgricoltura which is forced to surrender at 54 to 59.

A bad evening thanks to a more punctual Treviso shooting and the heavy absence of Llorente forces the Sangiorginos to find victory in the match on Thursday 2 May at 7.30pm, in which they will be guests of the Pala Pascale in Treviso.
