REGGIO EMILIA – We have received and published the response of the center-right candidate for mayor in full, Giovanni Tarquinito the comment by the director of Tg Reggio, Franzini, on the meaning of the Liberation Day.

Dear Director Franzini,
to definitively clarify my thoughts, which evidently arouse many doubts in you, I reiterate that, as clearly emerges from what I have already written (see below, and to avoid any misunderstanding, the texts of the two declarations) on the celebrations of 25 April, the first following a journalistic request and the second in response to instrumental and misleading statements from my so-called election campaign antagonists, I am radically against any form of totalitarianism, whether of fascist or communist origin.
In antithesis to these ideological degenerations I am therefore undoubtedly anti-fascist and anti-communist. He will understand that some parts of his latest report, combined with the projection of suggestive images, but not too much, are therefore unfair and misleading.
I don’t see what else I can say to make it re-emerge from reflections which by virtue of its role become public and on which it is clear that one can be, not too casually, induced to formulate negative judgments on the political initiative headed by me, exponent of the civic world, and to the entire center right.
As much as may still be necessary, I reassure you that the principles that guide me and my list, as well as the parties that support the candidacy, and that will inspire our administrative action for the city, are those that are found sacralized in the Constitutional Charter and which are therefore based on the affirmation of democracy and liberal principles and on the rejection of any dictatorship and any form of abuse and denial of the fundamental rights of the human person.
For this reason, allow me to express my amazement, not to say regret, in relation to the meaning that was wanted at all costs to be given to my words, spoken and unspoken, thus distorting my humble thoughts.

“I want to think that April 25, as a national holiday, is the holiday of all Italians and of all those who recognize and identify with the values of freedom, democracy and respect for the human person which inspired the Constitution of the Italian Republic .
Commemorating this historic date means celebrating that unity of purpose which, with full respect and balance between different political opinions, gave life to one of the most beautiful and far-sighted fundamental charters. The Constitution, written following a hateful and violent foreign occupation of our country, starts from the firm rejection of every form of totalitarianism and discrimination, and this is what must be celebrated today. The celebration of April 25th must continue to be a firm reminder to duty to free oneself from the conditioning that is forcefully imposed by any ideological degeneration, of any party, to affirm with conviction the self-determination of the person, his rights and his duties in belonging to a community rich in liberal values and principles of democracy ”.

“The reactions and comments to what was written regarding the celebration of April 25th are the demonstration that there is still something to overcome in terms of litigiousness on fronts that are historically opposed, but which today have the same democratic spirit of rejection of violence, both of what was once called fascist violence and of all those that originated from other totalitarianisms, including the communist one.
So there is no scale that tips one way or the other when it comes to violence. Violence is to be rejected always and in any case. Historically there has been violence and it characterized that period of fascism in episodes which then – alas – were repeated when we arrived at the Liberation, because we must not forget the violence that was perpetrated by people who did not have those values within themselves. of respect for the person and democracy which, fortunately, prevailed later and were enshrined in the Constitution, as I have already said and written.
Therefore I believe that April 25th should be celebrated as a moment of liberation from regimes, from totalitarianism and from the invasion of our territory by realities that would have crushed those rights that the Constitution instead exalted and which today we have the duty to carry into the future , looking to the future of the new generations and young people who have the right to free themselves from that hatred that evidently still exists within those who have not yet psychologically and ideologically overcome that dramatic historical period.
We therefore need to look ahead and it is only by looking ahead that we will be able to address the many problems of modernity that also afflict our city.
If we do not overcome the ideologies and degenerations of ideologies that have historically existed, and which cannot be a reminder of the culture of fear and terror so that those situations can be repeated, we run the serious risk of blocking those positive forces that they are also in the diversity of opinions.
I myself, who am the grandson of two grandparents who have two completely different stories, are proof of what I say: a grandfather refused to join the fascist regime and for the choice he supported he was removed from his workplace and his city and had to move to the North; the other grandfather, however, was guilty of obeying the order to participate in the unfortunate Russian campaign and upon returning home, on April 25th he was subjected to unprecedented violence, stripped of all his possessions and forced him and his family to move away from their country and start their life from scratch with the risk of losing it. So don’t let anyone tell me that violence is only on one side. And it is still sad today to see that on the one hand there continues to be an instrumental use of words that have the obvious aim of dividing, while on my part there is a continuous commitment to uniting souls and building a new future of peace together to the good of the city”.
