Serie D Group I, the penultimate day is played

The penultimate day of Group I of the Serie D championship will be played on Sunday, 3pm, where the achievement of 5th place in the standings which allows the play-offs remains to be defined.

Four teams are in the running: Ragusa (with 50 points), S. Agata (49), Acireale and Real Casalnuovo (48).
Also at stake is involvement in the only play out which will have to complete the relegation picture after those which have already occurred of Gioiese and Castrovillari.
Locri (28 points), San Luca (29) and Portici (32) are implicated. For a comment on the championship which is coming to an end we asked the expert coach of S. Agata, Michele Facciolo who is more than satisfied with the brilliant championship played by his team.

“It was a championship – says Mr. Facciolo, who in his career has gained experience between Serie C and D, as second and first coach, leading Cavese, Acr Messina, Albinoleffe, Celano, Melfi and Biellese – very beautiful, even if clearly divided into two sections. On the one hand Trapani, Syracuse, Vibonese and subsequently also Reggina, on the other everything else, very balanced”.

Did you expect such a brilliant championship from your S. Agata? “I admit that I didn’t expect it because when only two players remain from the previous squad, everything becomes difficult and complicated.
We were lucky enough to strengthen the team with the arrival of the cherry on top Alagna and the results are known to everyone, not to mention that the team is very young and the staff is very limited”.

At this point?

“It seems obvious to me that we will try to end the season in the best possible way, trying to conquer the play-off grid even if we know it won’t be easy as the competition is very qualified and fierce.
It should also be underlined that without the mess against Reggina, which cost us three points, we would already be on the fast track.”

The revelation team of the season?
“Certainly S. Agata who competed with everyone, showing a good game, but Real Casalnuovo was also a happy surprise, as was Licata where Mister Romano, with a handful of young players, did very well ”.

Sunday against Ragusa?
“Triple match, but let’s hope for 1 if we want to cultivate this dream”.

And here are the predictions from Mr. Facciolo:
” Gioiese-Trapani 2; Reggina-Sancataldese 1; Licata-Castrovillari 1; Portici-Vibonese 2; San Luca – Real Casalnuovo 1X2; Acireale-Locri 1, Syracuse-Akragas 1.
Nuova Igea and Canicattì rest.
