The Municipality of Messina this year too it joined the national reading campaign “Il Maggio dei Libri 2024” conceived by Cepell (Centre for Books and Reading) and now in its fourteenth edition. This year’s theme is “If you read you’ll lib(eri)” and has three strands: Lib(e)ri di lavoro (presentations, essays, cultural activities); – Lib(e)ri di dreaming (children’s reading, novels and fiction in all its facets); – Lib(e)ri to create (workshops, recreational activities, events dedicated to poetry).
In agreement with the mayor Federico Basile, the Department of Cultural Policies of the Municipality, together with the Culture service of the Metropolitan City, has drawn up a calendar of events involving associations, bookshops, publishers, schools, libraries and private bodies, to underline and strengthen the social value of books and reading as a key element of the personal, cultural and social growth of a community.
The program began last April 23rd on the occasion of the Book Festival, with meetings at the municipal library, and at the Mondadori Bookstore and Doralice and will see the alternation of initiatives for adults and children until May 31st 2024, with the aim of bringing them closer to reading. The events will take place in bookstores and libraries, but also in the “non-places” of the book, i.e. in squares, stairways, trams and ships.
Among the peculiarities of this calendar of events we highlight the “Readings in motion” by “voice donors” who will read on the tram and on the Caronte & Tourist ships.
The Night of Books and Libraries will take place on Friday 10 May from 6.30pm to 10.30pm, with the involvement of the “Giacomo Longo” regional library, the Library of the Capuchin Friars Minor, the municipal library and the city’s bookshops which will guarantee evening openings and initiatives within their own spaces.
