TERAMO. «The headquarters of the National Social Security Institute of Teramo is outlawed: it discriminates and violates human rights»: it’s very harsh Claudio Ferrantepresident of the Carrozzine Determinate association, who urgently requests a meeting with the mayor Gianguido D’Alberto and to the president of the INPS after what was experienced and photographed yesterday morning in front of and inside the institute in via Oberdan. «I get to the main entrance and it’s inaccessible because of the steps and there’s no intercom. I go to the employee entrance: more steps, but at least there is an intercom which, however, is located very high up and I can’t reach it”, reconstructs Ferrante, “I see a third entrance with the wheelchair symbol, but it has the shutter closed without bells. Not knowing how to get in, I start shouting, not without embarrassment, to see if any employee comes down. But nothing. I ask a guy to come in my place to call me someone. After a while the caretaker comes out and tells me to move to the “wheelchair” entrance; here he opens the shutter to let me in but I discover that the ramp has a slope double that required by law. Same problem of slope to get on the stairlift, which stops on a landing with insufficient space for maneuvering the wheelchair.”
In short, a disaster, which goes hand in hand with the situation outside the headquarters for which Ferrante denounces the absence of a slide to access the INPS portico and the dangerousness of the sidewalks. On one of these, the president of Carrozzine Determinate himself was literally stuck with his wheelchair on grates that were too wide. Some passers-by “freed” him, also outraged by the situation. «All this is not just illegal. All this violates human rights, the principle of equal opportunities and human dignity. The apologies from INPS or the mayor of Teramo are no longer sufficient, even if they arrived. As president of the Wheelchairs Association, I want and demand full respect for the law. I make two wheelchairs available for the mayor D’Alberto and the president of the INPS, and I ask for an urgent meeting to establish peremptory deadlines to restore civility and rules established by the constitution and the laws in force”, concludes Ferrante.
