The Diocesan Museum of Acireale will host the temporary exhibition “Vesmenta Sacra: silk and flowers in the sacred vestments of the Acireale area between the 18th and 19th centuries”. A journey between art and devotion that will open to the public on the occasion of the Flower Festival scheduled in Acireale from April 25th and will continue until May 1st. The inauguration will be tonight, Friday 26 April, at 8pm. The exhibition will be open to visitors on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April from 9am to 8pm, non-stop. After these days the exhibition will be available for groups by reservation by calling 3515215736.
This exclusive exhibition highlights the art and spirituality of sacred vestments used over the centuries in liturgical actions. The exhibition presents a careful selection of vestments and sacred accessories from various ecclesiastical collections of the diocese, many of which have never been exhibited to the public before. Each piece tells a unique story of faith, tradition and religious craftsmanship. The objective of this exhibition is to bring back memories of the time of silk production and its processing in our territory between the 17th and 19th centuries. “Museums – declares Mgr. Giovanni Mammino, director of the diocesan museum – play a crucial role in preserving and transmitting history and culture, acting as bridges between the past and the present. This exhibition allows visitors to explore different aspects of human history, offering significant insights into how societies have evolved over time. Our museum offers a unique window into devotion, aesthetics and social interactions within the Christian community through the ages.” The exhibition was also set up thanks to the collaboration of the Cento Campanili Association and the “Renato Guttuso” Art School of Giarre. In particular, the students of this institute took individual fabrics into consideration and developed studies on floral decorations by taking and drawing the various flowers.
