In the wake of a terrible World Cup last February in Doha, Ahmed Hafnaoui would have decided to withdraw from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Tunisian swimmer will therefore not defend the five-circle title won in Tokyo 2021 in the 400 meters freestyle, increasing the medal chances of all his possible opponents in the 800 and 1500 freestyle.
According to Africa Aquatics, the news was announced by Mehrez Bousyan, the president of the Tunisian Olympic Committee, during a television broadcast and was later confirmed by Hafnaoui himself. He was therefore absent in the French capital, the great protagonist of the 2023 World Championships, in which he had even come close to a sensational hat-trick between 400, 800 and 1500 in Fukuoka with sensational chronometric performances.
The twenty-one year old African he also revealed that he will no longer train in the United States, after having declared in February that he wanted to apply for a visa for the States with the intention of joining The Swim Team, a group of professionals led by Mark Schubert in California. Hafnaoui was scheduled to compete at the collegiate level with Indiana this season, however she stopped swimming with the team after two meets.
