Fire prevention in Syracuse: “what is the Municipality’s planning”

What is the fire prevention plan implemented by the Municipality of Syracuse? This was asked by the group leader of Insieme, composed of Ivan Scimonelli, given the approach of the hot season and the first fires already recorded in some areas of Sicily.

“I take note of the union ordinance n. 6 of 04/24/24 with which the Mayor of Syracuse imposes obligations and prohibitions for the “Prevention and active fight against fires” – writes Scimonelli -. An articulated and detailed ordinance on the obligations of private individuals and the conduct of individual citizens.”

But the leader of Insieme asks the municipal administration – in light of the disastrous experience experienced last year with the fires that surrounded Syracuse from North to South – what the prevention plan is that the Municipality is implementing on its uncultivated land. “Is there a schedule for cleaning the land? – he asks again – Is there an intervention plan to prevent the triggering of interface fires, for the areas bordering the built-up areas, for the external perimeters of municipal lands? Can the City be informed? The questions arise spontaneously because taking a tour around the city and the suburbs you can’t see anything different from the beginning of spring/summer 2023.”
