Piero Fassino is accused of stealing a perfume from the duty free shop at Fiumicino airport. And it wouldn’t be the first time. The former Minister of Justice, now a deputy of the Democratic Party, would have already in the past been recognized as the perpetrator of a theft in the shop in Terminal 1 of the Rome airport, the same one where he was reported last April 15 after being blocked with something in his pocket an unpaid bottle of Chanel perfume. A precedent that could complicate the situation of Fassino himself.
What happened
The perfume was supposed to be a gift for his wife. The episode occurred last April 15th when Piero Fassino, while waiting to embark for France, went to the departures shopping area. “Having the trolley in one hand and the mobile phone in the other, not yet having three hands, I simply placed the perfume package in my jacket pocket, waiting to go to the checkout” said the deputy. When the employees heard the anti-shoplifting alarm go off, however, they didn’t believe the justification and, after seeing the store’s surveillance cameras, they decided to file a complaint.

Previous theft in the same duty free
The employees of the business were heard as witnesses by the agents of the Air Border Police and reported that on the first occasion of theft the dem deputy was not stopped. In light of this news, the investigators also decided to hear the testimonies of other store employees who were not present on April 15th. The agents also acquired video footage from the surveillance cameras of the duty free which shows how Fassino actually attempted to steal the perfume and how the parliamentarian did not have his cell phone in his hand as he said, attributing the gesture of put the package in your pocket.
