He enters the Turin restricted traffic zone with his electric car and within a few days receives notification of a hefty fine. Giovanni says he is a disgrace and asks us what to do. Send questions and observations to [email protected].
But I ask: what can I do? They tell me I have to go to the justice of the peace!!!! I’ll simply say it’s a shame, sure I was on electric but from now on….. Be careful about buying electric cars. I thank you and attach the minutes„. John Nepos
There’s little to do, but let’s put an end to this Babel in the restricted traffic zones
Answer- We’re sorry for you, Giovanni, but we have serious doubts about the possibility of obtaining the cancellation of the sanction. In fact the the municipality of Turin allows owners of electric cars to enter the restricted traffic zone only subject to authorization.
Authorization must be requested in advance by filling out a form, and is permitted for a maximum of 12 entries in the calendar year. Find it here Web page with all the indications.
However, we are the first to argue that it should be bring order to the regulatory babel which regulates access to the restricted traffic zones.
Each municipality adopts its own rules, and they are all different. Some do not allow exemptions for electric vehicles; others, like Turin, predict limited exemptions and conditioned; still others require a registration and a specific pass.
Finally, others, like Milan, detect entrances with telematic systems that automatically identifythrough the license plates, the type of engine and therefore do not require any prior communication.
In this chaos is frequent than electric motorists incur violationsespecially when they are in cities other than their home city.
As we have written many times, it would be enough to equip the electric car with a license plate that would differentiate it from the thermals and made it immediately recognisable both from the cameras at the entrance gates, and from the traffic police during circulation within the restricted traffic zone and in the car parks, which are often free for BEVs.
