46 video surveillance projects approved in the prefecture of Potenza

Among the objectives, strengthening and modernizing existing networks with more advanced technologies

The prefect of Potenza Michele Campanaro chaired the provincial committee for public order and safety, meeting for the examination and approval of the video surveillance projects submitted by 46 municipalities in the province of Potenza for the urban security funds of the Ministry of Internal, for the 2023-2024 year.

Of the 46 requests made, 29 resumed projects already nominated and not financed in previous years, while the remaining 17 concerned new initiatives. The proposals, illustrated by the first citizens, in some cases aimed at strengthening and modernizing the existing networks, with more technologically advanced equipment, in others at creating a video surveillance system from scratch.

The technical evaluations were carried out by the representative of the telecommunications area and by the police. Furthermore, the 17 new projects were preceded by the signing of the “Pacts for the implementation of urban safety” with the mayors in recent days.

At the end of the checks, the committee expressed a favorable opinion.

«Today’s approval – declared the head of the prefecture – is an essential first step to allow municipalities to take advantage of the precious opportunity offered by the Ministry of the Interior. But regardless of the outcome of the ministerial procedure – which provides for the formation of a national ranking on the basis of the municipal crime index and the co-financing quota proposed by the body – the invitation to the local administrators of the province is to continue with conviction on road taken. In fact, the strengthening of urban security implementation tools, with the leading role of video surveillance systems, is absolutely decisive for consolidating citizens’ perception of security, with positive repercussions on civil coexistence and the social cohesion of local communities”.

In addition to the provincial leaders of the police forces, the meeting was attended by the manager of the telecommunications area of the state police for Basilicata, the president of the province, the mayor of the city of Potenza and the mayors and commissioners of the municipalities involved (Abriola, Acerenza, Anzi, Atella, Avigliano, Balvano, Baragiano, Barile, Carbone, Castelluccio Inferiore, Castronuovo di Sant’Andrea, Chiaromonte, Corleto Perticara, Filiano, Forenza, Francavilla in Sinni, Ginestra, Grumento Nova, Lagonegro, Lauria, Lavello, Maratea , Marsicovetere, Montemilone, Montemurro, Noepoli, Palazzo San Gervasio, Pietragalla, Pignola, Rapolla, Rionero in Vulture, Rivello, Roccanova, Ruoti, San Costantino Albanese, San Fele, San Severino Lucano, Sant’Angelo Le Fratte, Sant’Arcangelo, Savoia di Lucania, Spinoso, Tito, Trecchina, Vaglio Basilicata, Venosa and Vietri di Potenza).
