For the liturgical Feast of the Holy Shroud, on 4-5 May 2024, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Pierbattista Pizzaballa, is a guest in Turin, an opportunity for knowledge and brotherhood, in a time in which the Holy Land is devastated by war.
The Archbishop of Turin Monsignor Roberto Repole has invited the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, to celebrate the liturgical feast of the Shroud on May 4th.
100 years of the Diocesan Pilgrimages Work
It is also the way to celebrate the first hundred years of activity of the Diocesan Pilgrimages Opera, created above all to encourage travel to the Holy Land and consolidate the bond of solidarity with the Christians of the region.
An opportunity for knowledge and brotherhood
«The visit of Cardinal Pizzaballa – recalled the president of the Opera Pellegrinaggi Don Massimiliano Arzaroli – it will be an important opportunity for knowledge and brotherhood, in a time like this in which, once again, the Holy Land is devastated by war, and all its peoples suffer serious suffering, in a situation that increasingly puts us at risk coexistence not only in the Middle East but throughout the world.”
Meeting with journalists on May 4th
The Patriarch of Jerusalem meets Turin journalists and tourism operators on the afternoon of Saturday 4 May.
- At 6pm in the Cathedral he presides over the Eucharistic celebration together with Msgr. Repole
- In the evening at 9pm, at the Consolata sanctuary, he meets the citizens, as part of the cycle of cultural initiatives promoted by the weekly «La Voce e il Tempo».
On Sunday 5 May the cardinal
- it will be at Maria Ausiliatrice, for a meeting with young people from the Salesian world;
- he will then visit the Little House of Divine Providence and the Sermig,
- before leaving for Tel Aviv in the evening

Feast of the Shroud and Jubilee
«For the Turin Church – he recalled Monsignor Repole – the Shroud is a great sign of faith and hope: that image directly recalls the passion of Christ and his resurrection, which involves us all. For the entire civil community of Turin and Piedmont the Shroud also means religious and cultural heritage, and a strong element of attraction for pilgrimage and tourism”.
A tent to learn about the Cloth
«Many expect that, as part of the 2025 Jubilee, there will also be a public display of the Shroud. But we would like to implement, in May 2025, a different proposal. Taking advantage of digital opportunities, the whole world will be offered the opportunity for a pilgrimage to the Shroud through dedicated programs and special connections. And there will be, in the heart of Turin, a ‘tent of the Shroud’ which, during the days of the celebration, will offer the people of Turin and visitors the opportunity to learn about the Shroud, its history and its meaning.

Young people
«There is a category of people – he said again Monsignor Repole – to whom we look with great attention: the young people of our diocese, who in recent months have participated in the catechetical journey carried out in the Cathedral and at the Santo Volto. We are studying a particular moment of meeting with them, which we will give an account of as the preparation progresses.”
Shroud, a commitment that goes beyond the Jubilee
The archbishop underlined that the commitment of the Turin Church for the Shroud goes beyond the Jubilee deadline. First of all, it is a question of guaranteeing the quality of conservation; and then to study and prepare better conditions for “approaching” the Shroud on the occasion of the great pilgrimages. «It’s a complex job – he said Repole – for which we are only now beginning to lay the foundations. Since the Shroud is a heritage of our entire territory, we will continue to seek collaboration with the institutions of the city and the Region, as has happened from 1998 onwards.”
The partners
The archbishop thanked all the partners who willingly agreed to collaborate on the Jubilee program:
- the Piedmont Region and the City of Turin,
- the Carlo Acutis foundation
- the Turin Chamber of Commerce,
who have committed to providing their contribution; the Reply company, an internationally renowned group with Turin roots, which will provide the digital creations of the Jubilee project and which has agreed to be a partner in this itinerary;
- the CRT Foundation, which supported in particular the implementation of the works of the Officina Cultura e Territorio Association.
«I hope so – he concluded Monsignor Repole – that other local partners will be added in the coming years, when it comes to starting equally demanding projects focused on the Shroud”.

Nicola Salvi and Elisabetta Sola, from Officina della Comunicazione, then presented the second season of the series The Shroud of Turin, directed by Omar Pesenti and the second season of the podcast series whose editorial coordination was handled by Luigi Tornari, both available online and distributed by different networks.
A journey with the consultancy of Gian Maria Zaccone
The products continue the journey of in-depth study relating to various historical, scientific, religious and cultural aspects of the Shroud, a compelling journey which has made use of the scientific consultancy of the International Center for Studies on the Shroud and of prof. Gian Maria Zaccone.
Communication Workshop
Officina della Comunicazione is the multimedia content production house that has already produced content relating to the Shroud and which has long collaborated with Vatican City bodies and the main Italian networks with high quality products for television networks and digital platforms.
