“Paesi che vai… places, sayings, municipalities…”, the historic Rai Due programme, conceived, written and hosted by Livio Leonardi, broadcast every Sunday afternoon from 2.00pm to 3.00pm, arrives in Arezzo, on the trail of the first historian of modern art: Giorgio Vasari to whom the Golden Lance of the Giostra del Saracino on June 22nd is dedicated. The city will therefore be the protagonist on Rai Due Sunday 28 April from 2.00pm and will see Livio Leonardi delve into the history of Arezzo by taking a leap into the past among the places of the Giostra del Saracino. Livio Leonardi will narrate Vasari’s human and professional events, which are closely linked to his city. Mannerist painter, he was able to distinguish himself and establish himself among the most esteemed intellectuals of his time thanks to his many talents. He was in fact a set designer, an architect, and above all the father of the history of modern art, thanks to the edition of the “lives of the most excellent painters, sculptors and architects” or more simply “the Lives”.

Giorgio Vasari, despite the international scope of his fame, always remained linked to Arezzo, and Livio Leonardi will accompany the Rai Due audience in the places that were dear to him and which influenced his education, such as the city’s Cathedral, where the little Vasari he took the first steps in his artistic career in the workshop of the Frenchman de Guillaume de Marcillat. His high architectural genius exploded in the fertile partnership with Cosimo I de Medici, which also led to the construction of the Vasari Aqueduct, where Livio Leonardi will describe one of the most fascinating works of hydraulic engineering in Tuscany. He will lead spectators into his house, to which Vasari dedicated so much energy, effectively making it the mannerist manifesto of his artistic production. And it will also talk about his urban planning innovations, such as the Palazzo delle Logge in Piazza Grande, but also his more personal works such as his funerary monument in the Badia delle SS. Flora and Lucilla. Appointment on Rai Due on Sunday 28 April at 2.00 pm.
