Descriptive text here

There are jesters, ladies and knights among ancient professions, shows and medieval atmospheres. Yesterday afternoon’s bad weather did not stop the start of the fair of the crucifix found in Salerno. The event, organized by Bottega San Lazzaro is now in its 32nd edition, is now attested among the major medieval fairs in Italy and will liven up the alleys, streets and squares of the historic center of the city until Sunday 28 April. The shows will continue until 11pm. A tradition that is renewed for an event supported by the Municipality of Salerno, the Chamber of Commerce, the CNA, the Campania Region, the Province of Salerno, the Ministry of Culture, Coldiretti, the Salernitana Community Foundation, the Carisal Foundation and the Salernitana Medical School Foundation.

Also present was the Honorable Piero De Luca

Various groups, for a total of over 100 professional artists, including jesters, storytellers, musicians and fire eaters, coming from all over Italy, who will take part in the event. Yesterday afternoon the procession with over 150 participants in period costumes set off from Piazza Duomoheading towards Piazza Portanova where the official inauguration took place in the presence, among others, of mayor Vincenzo Napoli and the Honorable Piero De Luca. As always, the fine speaker and courteous jester, but also an expert in historical events and artistic director of the Fair, Gianluca Foresi, opened the event with the sound of rhymes. “A thousand more – a dive into the Middle Ages”, this is the slogan for this year. A return to the past. There will be four days to be experienced in the name of culture, of the rediscovery of traditions, but also of fun, among flag-wavers, acrobats and falconers. There is no shortage of medieval markets, which this year double in size and dedicate a section to current craftsmanship. But also many workshops and in-depth studies. An event, in short, which confirms itself as one of the flagships in the city’s program of spring events. And, despite the bad weather, there was no lack of enthusiasm.

A public success

There were many attendees on the first day of the Fair which takes Salerno back in time. “An event much awaited by our fellow citizens and tourists who visit our city”said the mayor of Naples. “It will be a great opportunity for Salerno residents and tourists, for families and children. This is the Salerno that we love and for which we continue to work with passion.”, the comment of councilor Loffredo.
