Circus, it’s a protest: “Clown politicians, animals don’t have fun”

Viterbo – Enpa and the White Boar Ets: “The municipal administration reviews the animal protection and welfare regulation dated 2009 by inserting restrictions that discourage keeping them”

Viterbo – “Clown politicians, animals don’t have fun”. The Enpa of Viterbo returns to protest against circuses with animals. A group of around twenty militants with some dogs on a leash displayed a banner with this writing near the circus that has settled in Viterbo in recent days.

Viterbo – Enpa protests against the circus with animals

“After just six months, Enpa (National Animal Protection Agency) section of Viterbo and its province once again finds itself having to express its disappointment and dissent regarding the holding of the Orfei Madagascar circus – say Enpa and the White Boar Ets -.

It is useless to dwell again on the ethological reasons, now known to all, which should lead to discouraging shows and events in which animals are “used”, since it is now well known that these are often animals that geographically should actually live on other continents and that , in any case, regardless of the territory of origin of the animals used in the aforementioned shows, almost all of them are subjected to efforts or in any case unnatural exercises and movements, held in narrow cages incompatible with their ethological characteristics and subjected to unjustified psychological stress -physical, due to the presence of the public in the shows and their continuous movement from one city to another, so we cannot even remotely mention the concept of “animal welfare”.

For the two associations, the circus with animals is harmful to education.

“Perhaps – explain Enpa and the White Boar Ets -, instead, it is appropriate to reiterate how the shows in question are very uneducational for young people and children who often do not immediately perceive the discomfort of the animals (especially the one “behind the scenes”) and they witness the spectacularization of conduct that consists in treating what are actually living beings more or less like objects.

We hope that the municipal administration will finally review the animal protection and welfare regulation dated 2009 by inserting restrictions that discourage the hosting of circuses with animals (as declared by councilor Buzzi, delegate for animal welfare of the City of Viterbo), restrictions based on the 2006 Cites regulation which in addition to indicating the minimum requirements for keeping animals (size of enclosures, etc.), it indicates completely avoiding the keeping of the following species: primates, dolphins, wolves, bears, big cats, seals, elephants, rhinoceroses, hippos, giraffes , birds of prey. We hope that checks will be organized to verify the health condition of the animals kept in the facility and compliance with all safety and administrative regulations.

How much longer will there be to wait for appropriate awareness?”.
