Butini: “I will always be grateful to Osti. Robur experienced joys and sorrows, but strong ties remained” :: Siena Club Fedelissimi 1970

«Football runs in my blood, I grew up in Siena and I was lucky enough to arrive in the Primavera and play two years of professional football. I remember Stefano when I was a rookie and I left the locker room on Sunday morning. I always saw this gentleman, who I didn’t know who he was, coming to see us before going to the stadium for the Siena match.” Another person particularly close to Stefano Osti is Alessio Butini, secretary of Robur between 2019 and 2021, who grew up under the wise wing of the historic Juventus manager. Butini, who spoke in person during the last episode of “At the Club with Robur”, did not hide his gratitude and affection towards Osti, who had identified him as his successor before deciding to undertake another type of professional path. «The relationship with Stefano was created over time, I remember that after my parents he was the first to come and visit me in hospital after suffering a serious shoulder injury during the Primavera. A strong relationship binds us and I am honored to have been the first person he thought of to hand over the baton, as Sergio Canuti had done with him years before. I will always be grateful for this. He taught me many things, he told me many others and it is as if I had lived them. In addition to football, however, I had another passion, that of studying economics and finances. The great difficulties brought by Covid, the failure and the restart led me to make another professional choice. But I didn’t take down the shutter – admits Butini – just as he didn’t, because his phone always rings too. The same goes for me, because the relationships that are created in football are very strong bonds, which you share 24 hours a day. You experience many joys and sorrows and perhaps it is more the sorrows and problems that lead you to bond. They are indescribable things, as is cheering itself.”

When leafing through the book of memories, the young former secretary brings to mind the negotiation that in the summer of 2017 unlocked Stefano Guberti’s transfer to Siena, right on the cusp of the summer transfer market session. «The first thing that comes to mind when thinking back to my experience as secretary is the first transfer market. Osti was in Milan with the director and the president. The last days are always the most chaotic, and while everyone there was anxious about Guberti’s contract, which arrived at the last minute, he was calm and preached calm knowing that I was in Siena, despite those being my first contracts deposited with expiration . He said: don’t worry, Alessio did it. In our adventure in Siena – concludes Butini – it is important to also remember the precious contribution of Alessandra (Pasquini, ed.). She was a fundamental piece of Siena, we compared ourselves in every way.” (Jacopo Fanetti)
