VIDEO April 25th in Como: speeches of rare balance. Then the square changes as Hamas applauds against Israel

A fairly well-attended ceremony on April 25th (for the occasion in Piazza Cavour, due to work in the garden area) and with a speech by the Anpi representative, Carlo Ghezzi, national vice-president, among the most balanced of recent times, with a reflection on vast scope on the tragedy and tyranny of fascism and Nazism, on the rebirth of Italy through the partisan war and the Liberation and finally on the meaning that what happened still has today – in a historical period marked by wars and massacres in the world – 79 years ago in Italy.

Below is the full video of the speech by the vice-president of the Anpi, Carlo Ghezzi.

There were several moments applauded by the good presence of the public even if in a specific moment it was truly impossible not to notice (together with the face of the founder of the PKK Abudullah Ocalan waved together with a PCI flag by the historic communist trade unionist and former city councilor Donato Supine).

The situation mentioned above is linked to the passage from the speech by Vice President Anpi relating to the tragic war underway in the Middle East. Also in this case, Ghezzi was impeccable in recalling the origin of the conflict with the massacre carried out by Hamas terrorists on 7 October, an event which was then counterbalanced by the inevitable underlining of the response – judged excessive and out of proportion, with over 30 thousand deaths among Palestinians – of the State of Israel. And here the public in Piazza Cavour somehow demonstrated a rather clear alignment between the parties involved: total silence on Ghezzi’s clear and unmistakable condemnation of the barbarity of Hamas; long and warm applause, however, while the ANPI representative pronounced highly critical words on the excesses of Israel’s military response. Below, the double moment.

Returning to April 25, before Ghezzi, the mayor of Como Alessandro Rapinese had spoken at the opening with a passionate speech, of which we attach the full video below, the president of the Province Fiorenzo Bongiasca, and the prefect Andrea Polichetti who also entrusted the touching reading of two poems by Gianni Rodari entrusted to Cristina Quadrio, teacher of the Teatro Sociale schools.

Finally, the Albate Musical Corps closed the ceremony with the performance of Bella Ciao.
