A film never finished, left in the attic among a thousand memories, perhaps even a little forgotten. Until today. In fact, a film from 50 years ago, from 1973, entitled “My Brother and I”, by director Paolo Baldelli, has been dusted off. At the time, when he shot the film, the man was 30 years old, but “because of love”, as he says with a smile, he stopped production, just when he was missing the dialogue: “I fell in love with the woman I married and lived with for 50 years – explained Baldelli – and therefore I put art aside. But I always remembered this film and every time I told myself that I should pick it up again, but then I didn’t I never did. After 50 years, I finally went up to the attic and took all the material down. How exciting to see the old cinematographic ‘pizzas’, with the Kodakolor films. but in black and white this film is perhaps even more beautiful.”

Of a dramatic, romantic, ecological and philosophical genre, “My Brother and I” is a cinematographic work that addresses universal themes of love, identity and belonging. Set in the picturesque city of Pesaro in 1973, the film tells the overwhelming love story between the son of a Pesaro entrepreneur, played by actor Mario Valdemarin, and a student of African origin from Burundi, played by Norma Jordan. Through the looks of youth and the challenges of the time, the protagonists take us on an emotional journey through the seaside and hilly areas of Pesaro and Fano, offering an authentic look at the life and relationships of that era. Lasting 75 minutes, the film was entirely restored, with the addition of music and background sounds, by Adriano Razzi, but with a small peculiarity: “When Paolo interrupted the production of the film, the dubbing, the voice of the characters – explained Razzi – Since putting different voices on well-known actors like Valdemarin was not really the case, we decided to leave the film silent, only with subtitles which made the feature film special, with a style similar to that from the early 1900s”.

The film, finally finished, will be screened at the Solaris cinema next Thursday at 9pm with the first screening, then it will also be shown again on 10, 12, 13, 18 and 19 May, but also on 20 May at the Masetti cinema in Fano . To book your ticket you can call the Solaris cinema or go to their website www.solarispesaro.it.
