During the days of the recent edition of the Andria April Fair, an exhibition on the “Peasant Civilization / Arts, Crafts and Popular Traditions”, promoted by the “Terzo Millennio” city associations; “Training, Work & Development; UCI BAT; Co.Co.In.; Between History and Nature; in collaboration with the “Umberto Lotti” Agricultural Technical Institute.
During the days of the trade fair, over 3,000 people appeared in the small structure in via Calderisi 34, right in the historic centre, forcing the guides to extend the closing time, initially scheduled for 9pm, until midnight. A highly suggestive location welcomes guests: an ancient cellar, previously used as a stable and home, and now expertly renovated by the owner, Nicola Scialandrone, to house a selection of objects and artefacts representative of the local peasant culture and of the arts and of professions, starting from the 19th century.
In parallel with this initiative, an exhibition of agricultural objects and equipment was set up in the courtyard of the “Umberto Lotti” Agricultural Technical Institute, the aim of which was to compare the agricultural-pastoral culture of the past with respect to current technological innovations in the sector.
“The visit to the cellar – underlines Fedele Santomauro on behalf of the pool of associations – with the well and the cistern for collecting rainwater in sight, was the object of admiration and reflection on how much ingenuity and how much beauty can be rediscovered in houses in the historic center of Andria, and on how important it would be for the public and private sectors to dedicate a strong commitment to restoring, renovating and enhancing a historical heritage of extraordinary value which risks disappearing irreparably”.
