Cremation plant at the Tavernelle cemetery, planning document presented. The intervention desired by the Silvetti council to create the structure in the capital takes shape, capable of achieving a series of objectives: allowing the population of Ancona to have a facility to avoid trips to active centers in the region or outside the region and, at the same time, do economy. The path towards the activation of the system began in recent days with the start of the feasibility planning and management of the services conference. The road map is ready: for the approval of the feasibility we will have to wait for the summer, in September the green light for the executive planning, in the autumn the awarding procedures, in 2025 the works with the testing of the work before the end of the year . The objective of the councilor for public works, Stefano Tombolini, who is following the project, is to cut the ribbon on the work by 2025, at the latest by January 2026. In the document presented in recent days, all aspects of the history are touched upon to the description of the intervention, its cost-effectiveness, passing through the environmental criteria with associated monitoring, time estimates and so on. Initially the work received a negative opinion from the mayor’s consultant for the environment, Professor Floriano Bonifazi, also coordinator of PIA II (the Plan for Ancona’s environmental policies) which is in the starting phase. The fear was linked to emissions into the environment, but it seems that the technicians’ explanation of how the plant will operate convinced them of the absence of risks to the health of citizens, especially those residing in the neighborhoods of Grazie, Tavernelle and Passo Varano.

The system, which will cover a surface area of 350 square metres, will be built inside the city’s main cemetery, in front of the current Farewell Hall. It will be able to accommodate two ovens, but in the first instance there will only be one active. A ‘Garden of Memory’ is also planned, an outdoor area where it will be possible to scatter the ashes in nature. The work, foreseen in the Three-Year Public Works Plan, will cost 2.5 million euros.
