Padua. Paleocapa Bridge, the walkway over the river for bikes and pedestrians is ready

In fact, that structure inaugurated on the Main Trunk to connect Piazza Accademia Delia to Riviera Paleocapa was eagerly awaited by everyone. An idea from the Councilor for Public Works Andrea Micalizzi given that the restoration of the Paleocapa bridge will last another year. The project was conducted and coordinated by the Army’s Northern Operational Forces Command in collaboration with the Municipality and was carried out by the military personnel of the 2nd Bridge Engineer Regiment, a specialized unit belonging to the Army’s Operational Land Support Forces Command.

FEATURES
Colonel Stefano Martinelli, responsible for the infrastructure of the Army’s Northern Operational Forces Command in Padua, was present yesterday to seal the operation. The building, 42 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, is rented out by Janson Bridging Italia and will remain in operation for approximately a year and a half.
«The solution adopted to ensure the connection between the two banks of the Piovego meets the criteria of safety, speed of execution and cost-effectiveness and allows us to take advantage of the professionalism of the personnel of the second bridge engineering regiment of Piacenza, specialized in the creation of this type of usually even more demanding works because they are vehicle bridges” said the colonel. «We managed to complete the operation 4 days ahead of schedule and we are very proud of the collaboration with the municipal administration. It was a very particular activity because we carried it out in limited spaces during both the assembly and launching phases. It is important because we have also safeguarded the environment.”

THE RESTORATION
Meanwhile, the restoration work continues. «The superstructure or the asphalt surface is being demolished. Below are the secondary steel structures and then the main beams. The latter will be lifted, placed to the side, divided into three parts and then taken to the company headquarters in Agrigento for restoration” says the director of the works Loris Ragona.

MICALIZZI

«It’s a walkway that serves to keep the neighborhood together. A request that many residents made to us when we shared the bridge restoration project. So we ran with the Superintendency and Civil Engineers who own the embankment to obtain the authorizations and then the Army carried out a very useful service to the city, given that there will be a year of waiting. I thank everyone who worked. It is a concrete sign of how the administration is engaged in this construction phase in trying to improve coexistence with the works that will change this city.”
