April 25th is a day full of appointments and ceremonies

VENICE – A national holiday in memory of the country’s liberation from Nazi occupation and the fascist regime, full of celebrations and initiatives which, as per tradition, will fill Venice, its islands and its mainland for the whole day today. In which all citizens are invited to take part. An April 25th which has reached its 79th anniversary and which in the city is loaded with further meaning linked to the feast of its patron saint, San Marco. Anpi Sette Martiri, in collaboration with Anppia, Fiapp (Gl), Iveser, Assoarma, the Jewish Community of Venice and the Municipality, will organize a program which will culminate in the traditional “Path of memory” in the Cannaregio district (starting at 10am from Campo Santi Apostoli ) and in the “Path of Peace” in Castello.

The Liberation Day will then come to life with a concert by the Tessera musical band and through readings of songs and speeches by students of the “Gritti”. In the morning, flag raising and wreath laying also took place at the tombstones in Piazza Municipio in Marghera, in Via Forte Marghera, in Piazza Barche and on the Terraglio, in Villa Salus, as well as in Gazzera, Zelarino, Favaro, Campalto and Chirignago.

THE TRADITION

But Venice, on the day of San Marco, cannot ignore the tradition of the bòcolo, always a wish for love and peace. A custom that requires every man to give a red rose bud to the women of the family, especially wives and girlfriends. The bòcolo, precisely. A romantic gesture which, however, is becoming a further opportunity to make “black” business. This is the alarm raised by Confartigianato Venezia, which wants to turn the spotlight on this year too phenomenon of illegal activity. The same one that, taking advantage of these anniversaries, proliferates causing damage to legal activities. Confartigianato’s appeal, entrusted to the words of Andrea Dabalà, president of the flower decorators, is addressed to the local police so that controls in the area are increased, to stem as much as possible a phenomenon of endemic dimensions. And to the Venetians, so that they renounce the illegal bòcolo, as a gesture of respect for their city.

From 4pm, Palazzo Ducale will then become the exceptional setting for the award ceremony of Venetian and metropolitan excellence, with the 6th edition of the “San Marco Festival Award”. The initiative, promoted by the administration, aims to pay homage to those citizens and organizations who have been able to bring prestige to the area with concrete works in various fields. The ceremony will see the participation of Mayor Luigi Brugnaro and the first citizens of the entire metropolitan city, as well as that of the highest city authorities. The choir of the Teatro La Fenice will accompany the event with the performance of some songs.
