Salvi’s Cus Ferrara tennis team wins 4-2 against the Sporting club of Carpi and achieves a well-deserved salvation in the Serie C team championship without going through the playout roulette. The season of the Cus first team ends, with a success in the last group match, the result of the Cussino sports project linked to the Salvi Company which started three years ago and is bearing excellent fruit.
This project has made it possible to field some under 16 and under 18 boys from the academy as starters, in a national championship that has always been very competitive and difficult.
Behind this result, which must be accompanied by the safety of the girls, there is an enormous amount of work carried out by the head of the tennis section and boys’ coach Ferdinando De Luca and the athletic trainer Davide Ghidoni. In the match played on the friendly pitches of via Gramicia, captain De Luca gave up the team’s number 1 Filippo Fracassi, relying on the very young fourteen year old born in 2009 Andrea Cogo. Cogo, ranked 3.1, had to compete against the expert 2.8 Pierpaolo Moro.
Uphill start for Andrea, with a break immediately halfway through the set and enormous difficulty in expressing his best tennis, also thanks to Moro’s game, made up of continuous variations and descents to the net. Score of 63 in favor of the representative from Carpi and start of second set with balance up to four all. From here on, Andrea’s level rose a lot, so she managed to win the set 6-4. Driven by enthusiasm, the third set went away with ease until the final result of 6-1.
In the second singles, the under 18 with a 3.1 ranking Federico Lambertini faced his peer Alessandro Venuta. An endless match ensued, in which he reached 6 all in the third set, after the first two sets ended 6-2 Carpi and 7-5 Ferrara. In the final tiebreaker of the third set, Federico had the opportunity to end the match, having two consecutive match points at 6-4 in his favor.
Unfortunately he failed to deliver, losing with a score of 8-6.
With the result 1-1, captain De Luca fielded the expert Edoardo Petrucci and the other 2009 player Mattia Occhiali in the other two singles.
Mattia, also fourteen, played against the 3.1 over 25 Gabriele Rodella. Positive start with very high level tennis from the young Cussino, and the first set to his advantage 6-0. Second set much more complicated, due to a change in strategy by his opponent, who went from playing with momentum and pace to trying to play exclusively to avoid making mistakes. Mattia’s crisis and 7-5 in favor of Rodella from Carpi. In the third and decisive part, a great reaction from Occhiali, who fought until the end, managing to finish with the
score of 6-2.
The fourth singles saw Edoardo face Andrea Gualdi. The result was a very tight match leading to 6-4 for Carpi and 4-1 for Cus.
From that moment on, Edoardo became nervous and lost concentration, so he left the match completely. Final result 6-4/6-4 for Gualdi. At 2-2 after the singles, captain De Luca entrusted the keys to remaining in the Serie C championship to all four young players present in the team.
The first pair composed of Cogo-Occhiali got the better of the expert masters Bonini/Cavazzoli with the result of 6-2/6-3. An almost perfect match, where the two Cussini played like veterans, expressing truly advanced second category tennis. The point of the final victory was won by Lambertini and the other Under 18 player Giulio Malaguti, opposing the young pair Marianeschi-Venuta.
Giulio and Federico made serve, return and all the mechanisms of the doubles game work very well, so as not to leave the opposing pair no chance, finishing in their favor 6-4/6-0. Third place achieved in the group, which brings all the fourth and fifth teams of the various groups to the playouts, together with the two worst third-placed teams. With this result, we can work for next year and towards different ranking objectives.
