Best result ever for Italy
This is an increase of +3.8% compared to the previous year, higher than the European average growth of +1.4%. A positive growth trend, which is confirmed in the long term; in fact, patent applications from Italy have grown by +38% compared to 10 years ago and by +15% compared to 5 years ago. Italy stands in eleventh place among all the countries that submit applications to the EPO and in fifth place among the 27 countries of the European Union, after Germany (24,966), France (10,814), the Netherlands (7,033) and Sweden (5,139).
Piedmont fourth region
Piedmont ranks fourth (4th) in the ranking of the Italian regions that have submitted the most applications to the EPO (European Patent Office), behind Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto but ahead of Lazio and Tuscany. In absolute numbers, patent applications from Piedmont in 2023 amounted to 441 (and represented 8.7% of applications from Italy). However, Piedmont recorded a -9.4% decrease in patent applications submitted in 2023 compared to 2022 at the EPO.
In Turin, 175 applications were filed
More specifically, 175 patent applications were received from the city of Turin (compared to a total of 441 for Piedmont) which allowed Turin to place itself in 69th place among the cities of the countries adhering to the EPO which presented the highest number of patent applications. patent in 2023.
