From Monday 6 May the forestry construction sites in Basilicata will start for 2415 workers. Ferrone (provincial councilor): “We will monitor working conditions”

The construction sites of the Reclamation Consortium will begin on Monday 6th. For 2415 workers of the single hydraulic-forestry group, a new year of work begins which we hope will not repeat the delays of 2023 in the payment of wages and will finally see the activity of the Regional Forestry Observatory to effectively practice consultation with unions and Municipalities. This is supported by Carmine Ferrone (Pd), municipal councilor of Bella with responsibility for forestation and provincial councilor of Potenza.

The activity of forestry construction sites and the work of the workers of the Reclamation Consortium have a crucial role not only in the maintenance of urban and inter-farm green areas but also for roads, in guaranteeing the safety and functionality of local infrastructures. Cleaning green spaces helps prevent fire and flood risks, while improving the quality of urban and rural life. These are services – adds Ferrone – very useful for Municipalities, especially for those with greater territorial extension and with vast districts and rural areas, which do not have their own financial resources. The municipal administrations collaborate closely with the Reclamation Consortium to coordinate these operations and ensure that everything proceeds as smoothly and safely as possible. In the next few days, starting from Monday 6 May, these activities will bring positive and visible results for all citizens.

We will monitor with renewed commitment as well as the timely payment of wages to forestry workers, so that – continues Ferrone – the close discussion with the Consortium, the mayors and the trade unions takes place in the most effective ways to monitor every type of problem with the aim of intervening promptly and bringing the forestry construction site back to the center of regional planning in which the Consortium must carry out its role as technical management body without replacing regional and local institutions. What is needed however, together with the start of the turnover between retired workers and new hires, in order to broaden the pool of workers, is a forestry reform supported by a clear production vision and responsive to the principles of innovation and efficiency will be able to ensure a decent salary for those who work there, the defense of the forest heritage from fires and hydrogeological instability, connected to the needs of the regional territory in which the protection of the environment and the multifunctional valorisation of forestry complexes public bodies take on a decisive role in the development policy, especially in internal areas”.
