From North to South Italy celebrates 25 April with processions, initiatives, demonstrations. Two processions in Rome. The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, after the ceremony in the capital, will transfer by helicopter to Tuscany to be in Civitella Valdichiana (Arezzo) together with Minister Crosetto. TO Milan the day will open with the laying of wreaths from Piazzale Loreto to other symbolic places of the Resistance. While the Anpi national procession will leave at 14 from Corso Venezia to reach Piazza Duomo. Will also participate Elly Schlein and the writer Antonio Scurati after the case of his monologue canceled by Rai. Schleinas last year, will be at the procession with the Democratic Party behind a banner with the words ‘Fascism is not an opinion, it is a crime’ which recalls Giacomo Matteotti one hundred years after his murder. Furthermore, the Minister of Education is expected in Milan Giuseppe Valditara who will participate in the laying of the laurel wreath at the Altar of the Fallen and then in Piazza della Scala for the celebration with Mayor Sala. Today Sala invited all citizens in a live broadcast on his Instagram channel to participate in the national Liberation procession. “Tomorrow there is the April 25th procession – he said -, I hope that many people want to participate. The procession will start at 2.30pm in via Palestro and at 3.30pm there will be speeches in Piazza Duomo. I invite you to participate. Happy April 25th everyone.” This year the event is also enriched with music with the contribution of the Anpi section of Teatro alla Scala. Before the speeches from the stage in Piazza Duomo, seven singers from the choir and four orchestra teachers will sing the Italian anthem and ‘Bella ciao’. At the end of the rally, the program includes a concert which includes important pages of opera such as ‘Ah la paterna mano’ from Verdi’s Macbeth, to ‘Le Females of Italy’ from Rossini’s Italiana in Algeri, passing through the indispensable ‘No one sleeps’. At the end two choruses ‘Si riseste il leon di Castiglia’ from Ernani and ‘Va’, pensiero’. And as an encore ‘The wind whistles’.

The demonstration in Milan will, as always, be opened by deportees and anti-fascist brigades, including the Jewish Brigade which in recent years has almost always been the subject of disputes which, with the situation a Gaza, this year promises to be more massive. The device set up by the police commissioner Giuseppe Petronzi after the order and safety committee of recent days chaired by the prefect Claudio Sgaraglia in which the Milanese president of the Anpi Primo Minelli also participated, ensures safety. However, there will not only be the police at work, but also the law enforcement services of Anpi, unions and parties. Behind the partisans there will be the banner wanted by the anti-fascist committee organizing the demonstration ‘Ceasefire everywhere’, which has created quite a bit of controversy. Behind again the trade unions (the secretary of Uil Pierpaolo Bombardieri will speak from the stage) and political forces such as the Democratic Party present with the secretary Elly Schlein (all contributing to their own law enforcement service, from Anpi to CGIL) and the various associations and the community Palestinian. The Palestinian association of Italy promises a massive presence with around five thousand people. Speaking on stage, after Minelli’s introduction, will be the mayor Giuseppe Sala, Pif, the national president Aned Dario Venegoni, the Fiap historian Andrea Ricciardi, Bombardieri, Debora Migliucci of the Historical Labor Archive and the national president of Anpi Gianfranco Pagliarulo. This is the official lineup at the moment, but the writer should also take the stage Antonio Scuratiwho will participate in the procession, to read the monologue prepared for his speech on the program ‘Chesarà’, later canceled by Rai.
