SALERNO. Great response to the “Next Gen Revolution Career Day” aimed at NEETs aged 16 to 35, selected by the “Fund for the Digital Republic – Social Enterprise”, and promoted by the Saccone Foundation, Ai.Bi. Amici Dei Bambini Association and Department of Political Sciences and Communication of the University of Salerno.

The San Michele Complex, home of the Carisal Foundation, hosted hundreds of interviews between young talents and over 15 local companies.

During the morning, speakers included: Domenico Credendino, President of the CARISAL Foundation, Virgilio D’Antonio, Director of the UNISA DISPC Department, Antonella Spadafora, Head of the Ai.Bi Campania Association, Mario Vitolo, Managing Director Virvelle, and Giorgio Scala, President of the Saccone Foundation . In connection Francesca Guinand, Communication Manager of the Fund for the Digital Republic.

We are proud and honored to host this event – began Credendino – As the CARISAL Foundation we believed right from the start in this project dedicated to NEETs, young people who do not study or work. We have networked many local entities and associations, together with the Saccone Foundation with whom we hope to continue on this path on other projects as well.”

Italy is one of the countries with the highest number of NEETs in Europe – highlighted Francesca Guinand – Today, from 4 million a few years ago, the situation has improved to 2 million, very high numbers if we consider that there are 26 million people without basic digital skills. This is 54% of the population between 16 and 74 years old, compared to 46% of the European average. Hence the need to create a fund, lasting five years, as part of a partnership between the Government and the Association of Foundations and Savings Banks (Acri) which aims to reduce the digital gap. The fund’s commitment is to identify and finance permanent and structural projects, including the Next Gen project. We are very proud of our results which have seen us reach a pool of over 19 thousand young NEETs.”

The University is proud to participate in a project that aims at an audience that is not usual for a university, such as that of NEETs – explained D’Antonio – however, fully activating what is the third mission of the University, that is, redistributing the skills created through research and teaching missions within the territory and building a direct relationship with it.

“We supported these kids in increasing their transversal skills, what are called soft skills – Spadafora stated – A very important part of integrating a person into a work group. Two of our coaches are still supporting the kids today in order to teach them how to work in a group, how to deal with difficulties and how to make the most of their individual abilities.”

“The NEET issue has not yet been fully understood – stated Mario Vitolo from Virvelle – There is a segment of the population that does not have the right motivation or is unable to enter the job market. On the other hand, the world of education pursues the ability to train suitable profiles that can be inserted into companies. I am convinced that a fruitful collaboration between employment agencies, companies and the world of education can facilitate entry into the world of work.”

“The Campania Region is the second region in Europe in terms of number of NEETs – declared Giorgio Scala finally – After 10 months dedicated to the orientation and coaching phase together with these kids, today we begin the final path of a journey that aims to accompany the kids at work. A day strongly desired in presence, to let these young people also experience the emotion, the positive energy, the trust they need and which it was essential for us to offer. From today, we will have 12 months to generate the expected jobs.

Next Gen Revolution is an experimental project, which aims to remodulate, with respect to the needs of both young people and businesses, the entire process of matching job supply and demand, understanding the right dynamics to implement to intercept NEETs and help them enhance their own skills and passions”.
