to discover the artistic wonders in the diocese of Bergamo

“One, two, three… Museums!”, this is the title of the Lombardy Region project, supported by the Cariplo Foundation and organized in collaboration with Abbonamento Musei and with the network of Oratories of the Lombard Dioceses, which for this year has decided to address to families with boys and girls aged 6 to 13, pursuing a primary objective, that of bringing the younger public closer to discovering the wonders of the Lombardy Region.

The idea is to give around 8,000 Junior Museum Passes, lasting 365 days, and 8,000 Special Museum Passes, lasting two months, to one parent/guardian for each family unit to the little ones who attend the Lombardy oratories. Upon expiration, the companion will be able to renew the card at a discounted rate.
The oratories are real outposts of sociality and inclusion and it is precisely here that – as the coordinator of the Lombard Diocese Oratories Don Stefano Guidi claims – the cultural dimension can and must become a further stimulus for the growth of children and adolescents. A way to experience beauty and create communities where children are called to express themselves freely and become the protagonists of a cultural change as declared by Alberto Garlandini and Simona Ricci, respectively president and director of Abbonamento Musei.
The initiative involves 218 museums, spread throughout the Lombardy region, with a full schedule of cultural activities, which together create a surprising itinerary to discover the heritage.

Among the artistic attractions that fall within the territory of the diocese of Bergamo we find the Museum of Stories, a widespread museum complex that tells the story of the evolution of the city from Roman times to the 20th century.
It is divided into 6 locations: in the lower city stands one of the symbolic monuments of the 20th century in Bergamo, the Tower of the Fallen, designed by Marcello Piacentini and built in 1924 to commemorate the sacrifice of the Great War. Inside, an itinerary offers a journey through the birth of modern Bergamo.
In the upper town, the former Convent of San Francesco houses the Bergamo 900 museum and the Sestini Photography Museum, which involves tourists in interactive experiences to discover the history of photography.
The walk through history continues at the Palazzo del Podestà characterized by archaeological excavations and Renaissance frescoes. The Palace houses the Museum of the Sixteenth Century, which thanks to multimedia and interactive technologies transports visitors to Venetian Bergamo.
An unmissable historical stop is the Bergamo Fortress, on the Sant’Eufemia hill, in whose bombers’ house the 19th century Museum is located. The museum itinerary recounts the transformations of the city between the Ancien Régime and the Risorgimento also making use of environmental reconstructions, multimedia stations and sound reproductions of the voices of some historical protagonists.

For music lovers: the Donizetti Museum which houses memorabilia and furnishings from the room where the great composer from Bergamo died. Finally, for a breathtaking view, the Museum Subscription card allows you to climb the 230 steps of the Civic Tower, known as the Campanone, the centuries-old fulcrum of city life.

Among the other artistic beauties, the Civic Archaeological Museum should be mentioned which collects finds from the city and the territory, from its origins up to the Lombard duchy; the Carrara Academy; the Moroni Palace and gardens; the “Lorenzo Rota” Botanical Garden; the Cathedral Museum with traces of prehistoric settlements, Roman domus, the early Christian church and the Romanesque cathedral and location of the Cathedral Treasure, the Civic Museum of Natural Sciences “E. Caffi”, the GAMeC, Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art and the birthplace of Gaetano Donizetti.
