In detail
«The crux of the dispute is always the same – observes Romina Cenciarini of the Embassy hotel in Levante – and the majority of colleagues think the same as me. My hotel is fully booked because it hosts the Adriatica Cup teams but it is equally true that at every start of the season it is always the same story. We don’t have an alternative and we almost find ourselves forced to take the teams, even if the rates charged are more of a remittance, if we then consider that several hotels still have difficulty finding staff, it is even more difficult to stay within the range and make a market. We talk about low rates for sporting events but it is accepted, otherwise the other side of the coin is that Romagna offers more competitive prices compared to Pesaro. But sports tourism is the only thing that gives the possibility of having people because the flaw is that the Municipality does not have any attractive events at the moment and has not thought in advance of bringing new, non-sporting events to Pesaro, such as to make people work a bit of everyone.” For Fabrizio Oliva, former president of Apa and director of the Flaminio hotel, there are no doubts: «A strange bridge born out of uncertainty. We are already looking to after May 1st, when from the middle of the month there will be more numerous groups intercepted. The problem of cancellations is around the corner. The greatest difficulty in this bridge is for hotels with the B&B formula for free customers, where the majority of reservations arrive on Booking and other platforms specialized in reservations. In practice, these days, operators are losing out with reservations from portals, without having prepaid the stay and with the possibility of cancellation 24 hours in advance, especially if, like today, the weather is unstable.”
The overview
However, the Flaminio hotel is fully booked for a music event and reservations confirmed in recent weeks for the visit to the city. The Caravelle is also almost full with two groups linked to food and wine and visits to the inland villages and part of the rooms occupied by the sporting event. «The Napoleon is also fully booked with sports – confirms Paolo Pedini – if these tournaments are organised, it is also right that we hoteliers leave our rooms as a priority and actually, given the weather, I say fortunately. Then in May we will work on it, with some groups that he has confirmed, even if there are no important numbers yet. What we are losing instead is a conference that until a year ago was scheduled for May at the Adriatic Arena, while this year it has been moved to June because the Municipality does not allow the Scavolini Auditorium to be available.” There are also some groups at Bellevue a Levante, which opened a few days ago.
The prospects
«We are covered by this and upcoming sporting events – explains Lucia Signorini – and by groups already budgeted for. It’s clear that the individual tourist doesn’t stop if he sees the weather being uncertain, at most, if there are no driving events, he stays a day or two, then leaves.” The person who opens for the long weekend and then closes and reopens to the first new bookings is Claudio Casoli of the Flyng B&B formula hotel: «We open on the weekend of 25-28 April and May 1st, then for the official opening we wait for bookings starting from the first week of May onwards.”
