Fire at the Scordovillo nomad camp in Lamezia Terme, the flames, fueled by piles of waste, caused a dense column of smoke and required the intervention of the Fire Brigade
Lamezia Terme, 4 May 2024 – Another fire broke out this morning in the nomad camp in the Scordovillo district, in Lamezia Terme, causing a dense column of smoke and considerable inconvenience for the residents and patients of the Giovanni Paolo II hospital located nearby.
The flames, fueled by piles of various types of waste, including plastic, tyres, car carcasses, household appliances and gas cylinders, spread rapidly, requiring the intervention of the Fire Brigade of the Catanzaro command, Lamezia Terme detachment.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the firefighters, the fire was put out, avoiding further damage to people and things. The Carabinieri also intervened on site to carry out appropriate checks.
Today’s fire is yet another to occur in the Scordovillo nomad camp area, causing inconvenience and concern among the population. The continuous waste massacres and resulting fires represent a serious problem for public health and the environment, and require resolute intervention by the competent authorities.
