The auditorium of the cultural shopping center of Ragusa, in via Giacomo Matteotti, will host the presentation of the book “Beyond the walls of Dite – Stories of migrants fleeing from Africa” ​​written by Valentina Spata and published by Pasquale Gnasso.
Halfway between the investigation and the biography of many survivors, in her book Valentina Spata presents a different narrative on the topic of immigration which has created a general debate about the management of migratory flows and the actual capacity of society and institutions to deal with what is presented as a major emergency.
Dr. Spata – geopolitical analyst of the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa, member of the team of the International Observatory of the Mediterranean and Terrorism and external collaborator of the United Nations – published this volume driven by the need to give voice to the stories and suffering of many people whom he has known over the years as a legal operator of the Pozzallo Hotspot. She, the author of the book, was awarded the international Miriam Makeba prize which appointed her godmother of human rights in sub-Saharan Africa in 2023.
The book has already received numerous awards, including that of the Vatican signed by the councilor of the Secretariat of State – Italian Section, Msgr. L. Roberto Cona; of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella; by Al Marsed, representative of Refugees of Libya; from Women’s international league for peace and freedom.
During the debate, personalities from the United Nations, NATO and the OECD will intervene remotely. Associations and representatives of associations related to the theme will be present. All institutions and citizens are invited to participate.
