The Professor Guglielmo Lippi Francesconi Study and Research Center is pleased to announce its participation in the event on April 25th organized by the ANPI of Lucca on the occasion of the Liberation Day celebrations. The organization of the event includes the delivery in Piazza San Michele at 3.30 pm of a rose, accompanied by a writing and a tricolor ribbon, to small “relay” groups who will go to all the places where the dedicated stumbling blocks have been placed to the victims of Nazism during the reprisals and roundups of 1944. The memory of Guglielmo Lippi Francesconi will be honored at 4.30 pm by a floral tribute in the place of Maggiano, the former psychiatric hospital he directed from 1936 to 1944, home to the stone of ‘stumbling block dedicated to him.

At the height of the fascist regime, Lippi Francesconi carried out a work of logistical and organizational renewal of the entire psychiatric hospital, also documented by scientific publications and texts that tell us about the commitment and humanity of this great figure in the history of psychiatry and resistence.

Lippi Francesconi was probably the only psychiatrist who paid with his life for his opposition to the regimes of those years, refusing to transform the psychiatric hospital in Lucca into an antechamber of prison for political dissidents. He was a true precursor of psychiatric rehabilitation and a staunch supporter of the human and civil rights of patients hospitalized in Maggiano. The Lucchese Medical Surgical Society, the Archimede association, and the Lucchese Art and Psychology Association will participate in the organization of the day, which with the Filippi Francesconi Study Center have been conducting many activities in solidarity partnership for years to keep alive the memory of the Director of the mental hospital of Lucca and also of the scientific and cultural heritage of the entire psychiatry of Lucca, collaborating with educational institutions and public and non-citizen bodies, to encourage and undertake prevention initiatives on psychological distress which in young people today has unfortunately come to act as a clinical protagonist.
