Thanks to the collaboration between EXPOSED and SPRINT Milano, SPRINT Art Book Fair Spin-Offdedicated to independent publishing and artists’ books, will be held in Track 3 from the OGR Turin on May 2, 4, and 5, 2024. The event will feature a curated selection of over 40 local and international publishershighlighting some of the most cutting-edge contemporary research in the field.

The project will be presented at this event A Guide on Gardening by Rubén Juan Montesinos (Handshake, Valencia), winner of the SURPRIZE – Supporting Publishing Practices award – promoted by EXPOSED for the SPRINT Milano Art Book Fair 2023.

For the occasion, a limited series of free posters produced in collaboration with Press Press and the photographer Cesare Gualdoni will be distributed, recalling the experience of the newspaper Lotta Continua in Bologna in the 1970s and that of the occupied experimental art space VIDICON in Milan in the early 80s.

Also in Binario 3 it will be possible to see the transmedia exhibition BODYBUILDERS by the photographer Alien, edited by SPRINT For EXPOSEDa mapping in progress of the new drag and club kid scene in different geographical areas.

The project was born from the desire of Italian photographer Alien to document the new alternative drag and club kids scene in different parts of the world. A vibrant community, constantly evolving and often difficult to grasp, whose traces are collected in a first volume dedicated to the United Kingdom, followed by a second publication on the Americas, from South to North, currently in production.

This is a delicate one meeting and observation work about a niche practice within the queer community, which takes shape in reality as performative and somehow ritual momenta daily expression of one’s self or alter ego shared only in digital form.
Masks, prostheses, make-up, postures that distort the physiognomy, alter the perception of the body to open the gaze to a fantastic human panorama that brings with it the visionary strength of existences often fighting for their recognition.

As he writes Helen Hesterteacher of Gender, Technology and Cultural Politics at the University of West London and author of the Xenofeminist manifesto, in the introduction to the first volume BODYBUILDERS: Each person photographed has somehow constructed himself, channeling not only personal aesthetics, cultural reference points and intellectual ideas, but also the unconscious forces, the unknowable that is in us and that necessarily finds expression in all our words, actions, thoughts and behaviors.

SPRINT Art Book Fair Spin-Off And BODYBUILDERS are initiatives within the program of EXPOSED. Turin Photo Festival.
