The investigating judge’s decision: one of the suspects remains in prison, 3 under house arrest. A 21-year-old released from prison

Before the raid outside the church there were other attacks, one of which, on New Year’s Eve, had cost a man very serious tendon injuries in one hand after having suffered a blow with a bricklayer’s hammer, forcing him to undergo surgery at the hospital of Acerra. This is the background that emerges from the flash investigation after the violent attack in Afragola.

The evidence of the conduct emerges from the surveillance cameras. One of the suspects is even seen miming the gesture of cutting the throat. The investigating judge did not validate the arrest (because there was no risk of escape), but the suspects remain detained, with the exception of a 21-year-old. This is the decision of the judge for preliminary investigations Daniele Grunieri regarding the suspects for the events of Afragola, Carmine Cesarano, 34 years old, Agostino Cesarano, 29 years old, Ferdinando Sellitto, 37 years old, and two 21 year olds (one of whom was released ).

They are accused, in various capacities, of the violent attack involving gunshots and baseball bats which occurred on Sunday in Afragola in Piazza Castello, which led to the wounding of five people, three of whom were hit by gunshots, one in the leg and the more serious in the abdomen, and two bruises from numerous beatings.

The investigations

Wild West scenes occurred shortly after midday while the faithful were leaving the nearby Church of San Giorgio after Sunday mass in which some baptisms had been celebrated.

Facing each other – it emerged from the investigations – are more than ten people belonging to two families divided by previous disagreements originating from neighborhood issues. According to the investigators, those arrested would have attacked the members of the other family in the square, with their bare hands and with baseball bats until a gun appeared with which several shots were fired, wounding three people.

There were three municipal video surveillance cameras on site, which allowed police investigators, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Naples North, to identify those responsible for the violent attack, the toll of which could have been dramatically more serious given the presence of so many people in the square.

The dangerous friendships of one of the suspects

The charges against those arrested are triple attempted murder, injuries, possession and possession of a firearm and public intimidation with the use of weapons. Only Carmine Cesarano, the man who allegedly fired four gunshots, was sent to prison; while for the others they are under house arrest. Some of the suspects have precedents.

One was investigated in the past for robbery with kidnapping, while another was controlled with dangerous subjects close to the criminal organization known as the ‘Panzaruttari’, referable to the Moccia clan. Meanwhile, the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security arranged by the prefect of Naples Michele di Bari will meet today at 7pm in Afragola. The decision was taken following the episode that occurred on Sunday. The meeting, which will be held at 7pm in the Council Room of the Town Hall, will be chaired by the mayor of Afragola, Antonio Pannone, by the deputy mayor, Pina Castiello, undersecretary of state.
