21-year-old hit and killed in Via Cattolica, fleeing motorist

A 21 year old girl, Sara Romano, resident in the historic center of Naples, was hit and killed in Via Cattolica, the main road that connects Cavalleggeri with the Coroglio area, on the western outskirts of the city. The fatal crash occurred around 6.30 am, when the victim and her friends were returning home after spending the night in a club in the area. The investigations are entrusted to the Road Accident section of the Municipal Police. The car that hit the girl has left and is being sought.

The dynamics of the accident were reconstructed by the officers, who listened to the victim’s friends. According to reports, the girls were returning home and, after walking a few meters, Sara, owner of the car, she asked her friend to give her the driving seat. The girl then sat in the back seat and the 21-year-old was about to enter the passenger compartment when the other vehicle, it would have been an SUV, crashed into her. The impact was devastating, the girl died instantly.

The driver of the other car did not slow down, continued running and fled, disappearing in a matter of seconds. The agents are currently acquiring the recordings of some surveillance cameras installed along Via Cattolica and in the surrounding areas to identify the pirate car and therefore the driver. Following the accident, to make the roadway safe and carry out investigations, it was necessary to close a stretch of road to traffic. The body was transported to the Second Polyclinic of Naples, where the autopsy will be carried out in the next few days.

A few hours earlier another accident had occurred in via Leopardi, in Fuorigrotta: the victim was yet another young woman, a 27-year-old from the neighbourhood, who had just got out of the taxi and was struck near the Scuole Pie while she was crossing the road; she is currently hospitalized in serious condition.
