Stefano PioliAC Milan coach, spoke to ‘DAZN‘ at the end of Milan-Inter derbymatch of the 33rd day of the Serie A 2023-2024 which took place at the stadiumGiuseppe Meazza‘ Of San Siro-Milan. Here, then, are his statements.

Stefano Pioli’s words to ‘DAZN’ after the Milan-Inter derby

If he spoke to the team tonight: “I stopped by the locker room to try to cheer up, because it’s a heavy defeat for those behind us. We need to finish the championship well because we have an important match on Saturday. Unfortunately we weren’t able to win this derby.”

On training: “I’m not disappointed from a tactical point of view. The priority was not to be too high and try to find space for counterattacks. Inter hurt us in the first half in the corner kicks. Then when you’re wise you concede something. We wanted to defend low so as not to concede what happened in the second half. The team fought and in the episodes they didn’t have the bit of luck that would have been needed. Inter had an exceptional championship and they did it by mistake in the month where we drew two games and lost the same number. If the difference with Inter is so notable, the others must make steps forward.”

On what was missing: “We made a very good start to the championship, after the break we had a difficult moment. The games against Roma were not what we hoped for and what we had to do. We froze and produced two performances below our possibilities I can’t blame my players for the derby. It was one of the most balanced derbies.”
