ANCONA Late yesterday evening, the local Operations Room sent the Flying Squads to Piazza Roma, where a brawl had been reported by the Italian Army soldiers employed in the “Safe Streets” operation. Once on site, the officers verified that it was actually a dispute between non-EU citizens in a state altered by alcohol abuse, behavior that attracted the attention of many present. The policemen, with the collaboration of the carabinieri, who also intervened on the spot, quelled the dispute by removing the two antagonists, who however continued their violent attitudes, directing them towards the uniforms.
Credit card theft
During the control activities on the identity of the foreigners, found to be Iraqis, aimed at their referral to the Judicial Authority for crimes of resistance to a Public Official, the attention of a Police Officer was attracted by the intermittent sound of the “alert” notification coming from the cell phone of one of the two foreigners. He ascertained from his telephone that, near that square in a Kebab, unknown persons were paying with his credit card. In fact, the same foreigner had reported to the officers shortly before that he had been robbed of the purse containing the wallet with the credit card inside.
Therefore, the crew of the Volante immediately went to the public establishment where they intercepted, inside, a young man who, still near the cash register with a payment card in his hand, showed a certain nervousness at the sight of the policemen. The identification data of the young man’s payment card, subsequently identified as an 18-year-old Tunisian citizen, turned out to be identical to those present in the notification messages on the robbed’s cell phone. As verified, the young man was taken by the police to the police headquarters for further investigations of the case and subsequently arrested for receiving stolen goods and improper use of payment instruments.
Arrest validated and released
While awaiting validation of the arrest by the competent judicial authority, the Tunisian was held in the security rooms. Today, the Judge validated the arrest of the young man, ordering his immediate release. Evaluations by the Immigration Office staff of the residence positions on the national territory of all interested parties are underway.
