«A beacon of hope and self-determination in the Italian Pride scene. The event was born as a response to the imperative need to combat and denounce the pervasive gender violence that still afflicts our society.” This is the objective of Transfem Terni Pride 2024, the event arrives in the city with over a month of events. Parade scheduled for May 25th at 3pm. For the demonstration, a boom in supporters: thirty-nine associations and five political parties.
Transfem Terni Pride 2024 This year the pride in Terni places the emphasis on transfeminism, the choice of this focus was explained on Saturday morning during the press conference presenting the events. «In recent years in Terni we have witnessed a resurgence towards women and the community – explained Luca Montali of Esedomani Terni -. The roots of this homophobia and misogyny are ancient in Terni.” In 2024 the organizers of the event did not ask for the patronage of the Municipality of Terni: «A choice shared by more or less all the associations – explains Montali – as a sign of protest against the attitude that in this year of government the Bandecchi council has had in comparisons of Terni society, of Terni women, of all Terni specificities”. Not a bolt from the blue, the initial relaxed relationships between the Esedomani Terni association and Palazzo Spada, moreover, have soured over time.
The common commitment «The event opposes the patriarchal system which sadly draws nourishment from manifestations of violence that generate conflicts, socio-economic crises, confirming stereotypes that affect and discriminate against many communities, including women, LGBTQIA+ people, people with disabilities and other specificities – continues Montali – . Terni presents itself as a city symbol of the damage inflicted by the individualist system and its
institutions, and is therefore the ideal venue to demonstrate that change can germinate anywhere. It is crucial to actively participate to convey an unequivocal message to the institutions and to culturally enrich Transfem Terni Pride 2024.” In fact, Esedomani «is firmly committed to the visibility of LGBTQIA+ people, to emotional and sexual education, to equal marriage, the recognition of non-monogamous relationships, to laws against discrimination and violence, for equal pay and for a universal accessibility. It strongly claims the recognition of LGBTQIA+ parents and their children, access to medically assisted procreation (PMA) and supportive pregnancy for others (GPA), the right to self-determined gender and the possibility of adopting a neutral gender in personal documents. It actively promotes sustainable development that safeguards the environment and condemns discrimination based on species. It also stands in solidarity with feminist and queer communities that find themselves in situations of conflict, while categorically condemning all forms of fascism, war and oppression.”
Events In short, over a month of events will revolve around Transfem Terni Pride 2024 which is a network with other similar entities and which is included in the calendar of Umbria Pride 2024, which will be held on Saturday 1st June 2024 in Perugia.
