“They can’t use our brand”

The Modena brand “can give value to many products, certainly in the automotive sector, but also in other sectors, just think of food and our excellence in typical products. But none – warns the mayor Gian Carlo Muzzarelli during a conference as part of the Motor Valley Fest – can think of taking over the Modena brand, even less so if there is no connection with the territory in the production. We are committed to protecting in every way, including legally, the improper use of the city’s name may he support us in this effort.” The reference is clear, as is the objective: to title the made in Modena (and therefore ‘in Italy’) put to the test after the affair of the Chinese Xiaomi which wants to give the name Modena to a car that has no connection with the territory.

Modena, according to mayor Muzzarelli, “is now a recognized and established brand, also from a tourist point of view, and we are ready to firmly counter any attempt at abuse, even more so if done without even informing us or involving us. It is a commitment that the Municipality shares with other local institutions, starting with the Chamber of Commerce, with which we have been working for some time to enhance the Modena brand. With this operation, however, we are trying to unduly exploit our reputation as a Motor Valley by using a geographical indication (Modena) different from the place of origin of the car (China) to improperly indicate or suggest that the car comes from our territory or that it presents the quality of automotive products from the Motor Valley”.

Also during the weekend dedicated to the Motor Valley Fest, the networking of young talents and start-ups with the top brands in the motoring region of Emilia Romagna was held yesterday at the San Carlo Foundation theatre. From 9am to 6pm, 11 Talent Talks took place, i.e. in-depth meetings aimed at the student population in which companies presented to students the key professional figures required by the automotive market, as well as the academic training path that candidates should undertake to acquire the characteristic skills required in the sector. Many young people who, through online reservations, filled the theater to listen to the conferences that took place throughout the day, with a notable interest highlighted by the many questions addressed to the professionals and by the queues outside the rooms to directly deliver their CVs and projects to the representatives of the companies.
